Travel to Casper
Fly directly into Casper via the Casper – Natrona County International Airport on Delta or United Airlines. Rental cars are available, and UBER is another convenient option.
Trophy Trout
These waters and Wyoming Fly Fishing practice only catch and release. Therefore, bring a camera to record all of these great fish. If you would like a replica made of your trophy, our guides are all excellent photographers and will take plenty of photos, as well as measure the exact length and girth of your trophy fish.
What to Bring
Our rates include all needed gear, but if you prefer to use your own, ensure it’s a five to seven weight rod, including a fly reel with a smooth drag. We also recommend bringing waders, boots, camera, sunscreen, warm clothes, and a rain jacket (the Wyoming weather is notoriously unpredictable).
We provide flies, leaders, indicators, and any other needed gear. Our staff is always tying and testing new fly patterns to find the big dog! Our Guides collect samples of the trout’s favorite bugs, then tie our flies to directly match (check out our Platte River Specialty Flies). By doing this, we get flies that resemble the specific aquatic insects of our river and not a standard pattern for all rivers. These Platte River specific flies can make the difference between a slow day and an epic day.
Gratuity
Our experienced and highly skilled guides are the hardest working guides in the business. It takes a lot of skill and persistence to not only put you on fish but keep you on fish all day. They will back-row the best runs five to six times and push you through the less productive waters, drastically increasing your hook-ups. Our guides constantly assess the conditions of the river and adjust your flies and techniques accordingly. Please show your appreciation for their hard work and dedication. The average gratuity that our professional fly fishing guides receive is $125 per day.
Seasons
One of the great things about the North Platte River is the length of the fly fishing season. The prime guide season is April to November, though the Grey Reef, Miracle Mile and Fremont Canyon sections of the river fish year-round. Ask about our discounted rates from December to March.
Cancelation Policy
We require a two-week cancellation notice. A 50% deposit will be charged to your card should you cancel within two weeks. If we deem the weather is not suitable for a safe and enjoyable day on the river, we’ll make arrangements for another date. Wyoming Fly Fishing Guide Service reserves the right to make the final decision related to any cancellations. Trip insurance is strongly recommended, as sometimes plans can change unexpectedly.
